St Mary's life: images of St Mary the Virgin, Cowes and some of our activities...
Christmas at St Mary's December 2011 Christmas is an important season in the calendar of the Church. It is the time when we thank God for the birth of Jesus. We have made the church look very festive this year and the wonderful floral decorations have been arranged by the St Mary's Church Flower Team. Each window in the church has been decorated by a group or organisation from the community thus cementing our links with the town. The Christmas tree and lights were assembled by one of our churchwardens and the result is a magical mix of colourful light. Christmas music has been provided by the church choir and musicians, including a concert by the St Mary Singers. The many carols services for school and the community have been enjoyed by all who attended. Cowes Enterprise College presented a wonderful Christmas Celebration attended by 2 llamas, [unfortunately camels could not be found!] . Solent County Middle School 'Church and...' 6 & 8 July 2010 We love welcoming young people to explore the church and its surroundings. The two days of 'Church and...' were an educational opportunity for years 5 and 6 to explore what Christians get up to outside of the Sunday worship. The children took part in interactive worshops focussing on Church and the World, Church and Society and Church and the Environment. In all five Christian denominations were represented as Christians from various walks of life interacted with the children. The pictures (far left) are of one group learning about the wildlife in the churchyard, which was followed by a presentation on the hazards to society and the environment of littering. The children consoldated their learning by preparing a 30 second advert for an imaginary TV station on why the environment should be protected and respected. Also present were the Street Pastors and Simon King, Youth worker attached to Cowes Baptist Church who demonstrated Christian mission and youth worship. Summer Fair 3 July 2011 Our annual Summer Fair took place on a blazing Saturday afternoon. There were various traditional stalls lining the church drive including local Arts and Crafts and we welcomed regulars and visitors alike to enjoy the church grounds. Inside the Church Hall provided freshly prepared lunches and loads of scrummy cakes with plenty of tea, coffee or cold drinks to wash them down with. The church itself was cool and tranquil with gentle music playing over the newly installed music system to help people to take a moment out.
